In 2017, the American Red Cross released their new updates to their Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Management curriculum. Included in the new material is a section titled “Not On Your Watch” that contains part of Drennen O’Melia’s story. It was added to help raise lifeguard awareness to the fact that swimmers of all abilities can and do drown, even in shallow water. Drennen continues to impact many lives.
